Another PED Bust for the MLB

With Ryan Braun being suspended for the remaining 65 games of the season due to Performance Enhancing Drugs, it’s time that we take a look at how the abuse of PED’s has negatively affected the game of baseball. To me, a huge baseball fan, it is disgusting that so many players feel the need to cheat to get ahead in this league. On top of that, they get caught and proceed to lie about their wrongdoings. It’s terrible.

It is starting to seem like every time a player has an outstanding season, next year we find out he was on HGH. This is going to be a weird analogy, but it reminds me of the boy who cried wolf. After one person was caught using these enhancements, fans are now set on the idea that everybody who does anything of recognition just HAS to be on steroids. It’s destroying the game.

Also, it’s beginning to stain the concept of the Hall of Fame. We are at the point in time where many of the steroid abusers from earlier on are on the ballad. So naturally, tons of controversy ensues. Should McGwire, Bonds, Sosa, Clemens and other names like those make it to the treasured Hall? You may not think so, but there are some who disagree.

With all of the negativity surrounding PEDs, there is still hope for baseball. Just look at Miguel Cabrera. He’s passed plenty of drug tests, and he is having another AMAZING season. He won the Triple Crown last year on pure skill alone and has a chance at it again this year, no PEDs necessary. This is what baseball is supposed to be about. This is why baseball is such a great sport.

To put it in perspective, I don’t even know how many home runs Barry Bonds finished with in his career because I honestly don’t care. 755 is the mark to beat. I respect Chris Davis for saying that the real single-season home run record is 61 because it shows that there are players who respect the game. Baseball desperately needs that right now.

Personally, I just hope that the MLB can rid of the abuse of these banned substances soon.
